I need to bend some back splats for chairs with the grain, the bottom of the splat needs to fit onto a curved seat rail. any tips for bending wood easily in miniature would be appeciated. many years ago somebody told me to soak the wood in a water and vinegar solution and then fix it to a glass b.... Plane your lumber into thin strips. once glued back together, these strips will be much more flexible than the original lumber. you can use any type of wood, but cross-grained wood and wood with knots are likely to break. plane it into strips according to how far you plan to bend it: for a curve with a 2 to 4 inch radius (5–10 cm), plane the wood into 3/32" (2.4 mm) strips.. Thick wood doesn't bend easily but thin wood does; and a lamination allows you to get tighter curves. your sofa looks like it has fairly tight curves so you might need to use a lamination. your form will need to cover the wood on both the inside and outside of the curves (so you can press the lamination between the two pieces of the form)..
